Developing in-house search is expensive
Deciding to up their search, Gandalf.com.pl wasn’t sure whether to further develop their own search engine or choose a ready option available in the market. After exploring the market and acknowledging in-house development’s resource demands, they partnered with Luigi’s Box. Time and ease of implementation were crucial decision factors, and Luigi’s Box fulfilled all functional requirements well.
Surprisingly simple integration
Gandalf.com.pl team appreciated the ease of implementation and the quick launch of Luigi’s Box on their e-shop. After the implementation, we agreed to run an A/B test, where we tested their original search solution with the one from Luigi’s Box.
Head to head with the former search solution the Search A/B test lasted from 13 January to 12 February 2023, and its main goal was to find out if using Luigi’s Box Search on half the sessions would cause a rise in revenue, transactions, and AOV.

However, the collaboration between Luigi’s Box and the Gandalf team does not end here. Our Customer Success Managers care about how our products help the clients and proactively communicate with the Gandalf team to help them get the most out of Luigi’s Box. After the successful launch, our specialists worked on fine-tuning the search to perfection tailored to the Gandalf e-shop and its business goals.
We continued to work on:
- Product boosting based on attributes such as popularity, recency, and availability – additional training was provided to leverage this feature using Luigi’s Box App.
- Optimizing filtering and adding extra parameters specifically for schoolbooks during the peak of the school season.
- Improving autocomplete by adding additional information field to results – e.g. hardback, paperback, audio, or ebook when it comes to books.
