Accessibility Act Information
The European Union Accessibility Act will come into effect on June 28, 2025. To help our clients stay compliant, Luigi’s Box has updated the standard UI and UX of Autocomplete, Search, and Recommender widgets to meet the key requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA.
These updates include:
- Full keyboard navigation support
- Proper accessibility labels
- Compatibility with assistive technologies
- High-contrast mode support (based on user OS preferences)
To ensure your entire website complies with the EU Accessibility Act, we recommend scanning for issues using tools such as Axe (which provides extensions for major browsers) or Chrome’s Lighthouse accessibility checker.
You may need to make additional adjustments to ensure that the rest of your site (outside of Luigi’s Box components) supports keyboard navigation, screen readers, and other accessibility standards. Ensuring full site compliance remains the responsibility of the website owner.
If you’re adjusting your site’s color scheme to improve contrast, and need to modify Luigi’s Box widget colors to match, you can do so using standard CSS.
Luigi’s Box widgets also support high-contrast mode, which is automatically activated when the user has enabled high-contrast settings at the OS level (e.g., macOS, Windows, Linux).
